ADI Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) Chips for Optical Modules
Product Specifications
A CDR (clock and data recovery) IC extracts the clock from an incoming NRZ data stream and retimes the data with it, which removes jitter accumulated along the fibre and gives the next stage a clean eye. Several devices below also include the limiting amplifier, so one chip covers both quantization and retiming. All models are grouped into this single product, so you can send us the models and quantities you need in one enquiry.

Applications
Receiver side of SFP, SFP+ and XFP optical modules, SONET/SDH OC-3, OC-12, OC-48 and OC-48 with FEC regenerators and terminal receivers, Gigabit Ethernet and 1.25 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps links, GPON, BPON and EPON OLT and ONU ports, DWDM transponders that need protocol agnostic recovery, and line cards where the data rate is not known in advance.
Features
Continuous rate locking from 10 Mbps or 12.3 Mbps up to 2.7 Gbps without an external reference clock or programming, multirate operation on fixed rate parts such as MAX3872, integrated limiting amplifier and slice level adjust, programmable loss of signal (LOS) detection, loss of lock (LOL) status, BER monitor and PRBS generator and detector on the ADN2817, I2C access to optional features, and single 3.3 V supply with typical power from 350 mW.
Companion Chips
A complete receiver chain uses a PD or ROSA with a TIA (ADN2880, ADN2882, ADN2820, MAX3266, MAX3267), then a CDR such as these, controlled by an optical module controller (ADuC7020, ADuC7021, DS4830, DS4834) with a TEC controller (ADN8830, ADN8831, MAX8520, MAX8521) for cooled optics. On the transmit side we also supply the matching laser driver families (ADN2525, ADN2530, ADN2872, MAX3668, MAX3945).
