The in-phase quadrature (I/Q) mixer and the image rejection mixer (IRM) provide robust mixing solutions for applications requiring high image rejection or sideband rejection. These mixers can be used as upconverters or downconverters. The I/Q or IRM mixer employs a dual-balanced mixer using two integrated 90° mixing devices. The inherent architecture of the I/Q mixer eliminates the generation of image frequency derivatives during downconversion and allows the selection of the desired sidebands during upconversion.
